A new national poll finds that only 41% of Americans approve of the way the president is handling the impeachment proceedings.
The poll, conducted by CNN/ORC International and released Thursday, found that the American public is split over the impeachment process.
Only 35% said they approve of how Trump handled the probe into Russia’s election interference and Russia’s influence in the 2016 presidential election.
Another 29% disapproved.
The numbers are similar to a CNN/USA Today poll from June that found only 39% approved and 37% disapproving of Trump’s handling of the probe.
It was also the first time the public has disapproved of the president’s handling.
The CNN poll found that 51% of the public disapproved and 32% approved of the investigation.
Trump has repeatedly accused Democrats of trying to obstruct the investigation and have threatened to resign if Democrats don’t allow him to fire Mueller.
But in a statement Thursday, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said he will “continue to support” the president.
